Solar & Battery Installation in Newington

Newington was built as the Sydney 2000 Olympic Village and, when it opened, was described as the largest solar-powered suburb in the world. Many homes still carry those early systems. We help Newington owners upgrade them, add a battery, or start fresh.

A solar suburb since 2000

Newington had rooftop solar before most of Sydney

1997

Construction of the Olympic Village begins beside Homebush Bay.

2000

The Village houses around 15,000 athletes and officials. Homes carry rooftop solar, and the development is described as the world's largest solar-powered suburb.

After the Games

The Village is reconfigured and sold as private homes, becoming the suburb of Newington.

Today

Many of the original systems are now around 25 years old, and due for a look.

What it means for your roof

Systems from 2000 were built for a different era

The original Olympic Village systems were small by today's standards, and panels, inverters and batteries have moved on completely. After 25 years, panel output has dropped and most original inverters have reached the end of their service life.

If yours still works, it is probably producing a fraction of what your roof could. We check what is there, whether any of it can stay, and what a modern system would add.

What we check on an original system
  • Is it still working, and what is it producing?
  • The condition of the panels, inverter and wiring
  • Whether any of it can stay, or should be replaced
  • How much more your roof could produce today
  • Whether a battery can be added now or later

What we check on a Newington home

Owners corporation and community title

Many Newington townhouses sit in strata or community schemes. Roof works usually need approval; we provide the drawings and product details your committee will ask for.

Compact, two-storey roofs

Many homes have smaller or split roof areas. We lay panels out face by face and size the system to what genuinely fits.

Removing the original equipment

Early-generation systems need careful removal and roof make-good before new panels go on. We include this in the plan rather than leaving it as a surprise.

Your network and export limits

Depending on the street, homes in Newington are on either the Endeavour Energy or Ausgrid network. Your network approves every connection and can limit how much solar you send back. Conditions depend on your property, so we apply for approval before installation.

Questions from Newington homeowners

My home still has its original Olympic Village solar. Is it worth upgrading?

Usually, yes. A system from 2000 produces a fraction of what a modern one can on the same roof. We check what you have and show the numbers for keeping, upgrading or replacing it.

Can I add a battery to my existing system?

Original systems usually cannot take a battery directly, so it is normally added with a new inverter or as part of an upgrade. We show you the options.

I live in a townhouse. Do I need owners corporation approval?

Usually, if your home is in a strata or community scheme. We give you the drawings, product details and installation plan to take to your committee.

What rebates are available?

Most homes can get the federal solar rebate (STCs), and eligible batteries get the federal battery rebate. Both come off your price, and we claim them for you. Eligible NSW households can also use the NSW Government's 0% Home Energy Saver loan. The design tool shows what applies to you.
