Frequently asked questions

How are the classes structured?

We start a project every two to three weeks. I teach all different subjects such as still life, figurative, landscape and portraits and I demonstrate how to use a range of media including pencils, pastels, watercolour, pen and wash, acrylics, gouache and water based oils.

How often do I pay for classes and what happens if I miss a class?

Classes are paid every term time, if you miss a class you don’t get refunded but I keep the prices of the classes at an affordable and fair price. Lessons run through the year but we close when Solihull schools are off on holiday.

The Zoom online classes run through the year every other Saturday. When you start classes you will be given priority when rebooking each term.

If I am absent and unable to teach you will be taught the class at a later date.

Where will the classes be held?

Art in the Community classes are held at The Courtyard Gallery, Solihull, B91 3RG. Online art classes are held every two weeks via Zoom.

Can I join any class if I am a beginner?

Absolutely! In all my classes online and in the community I teach a range of abilities, when I demonstrate I teach techniques for beginners and then offer an advanced task for those more experienced. People generally choose a class that suits their choice of day and times.

What art materials do I need?

To begin with you will be fine with just a pencil, paper and a rubber. I give students information about what materials they will need for each project so you can choose if you want to purchase more when you need them. I teach how to use a range of media including pencils, pastels, watercolour, pen and wash, acrylics, gouache and water based oils. It is nice to build your own collection of art materials so you can be independent artists out of the class and at home. Check out my recommended Art Materials List to help you get started.
